In a business setting, domes attached to the ceiling are often thought to contain security cameras. Businesses, however, in order to lower security costs, will often install dummy domes without camera hardware inside as a theft deterrent. These domes work wonders, but many are slightly see through so thieves can pick out which domes have cameras installed and which do not. The acrylic mirror dome with a smoke coloring is the best option because the unit can easily hide a security camera giving the business the ability to install, move and replace cameras as needed.
Specialty mirrors like the acrylic smoked dome are available in a variety of sizes. The units are constructed to be used with a drop ceiling in most cases. Sizes range from 9 inches in diameter to 48 inches in diameter depending on the size of the drop ceiling and the needs of the business.
Camera Hardware Versus Dummy Units
The acrylic safety mirrors can be chosen with camera hardware pre-installed for quick installation. These units are more costly than other specialty mirrors, but the CCTV systems can be direct wired to the camera hardware included in the dome. Other units, with no camera hardware, will look identical to the camera ready specialty mirrors completing the theft deterrence and detection the business is looking for.
Within the camera enabled smoked domes there are two subcategories. Some domes will be built with designated viewing areas allowing the camera to be positioned facing only one location. Other will allow 360 degree viewing for moving security cameras. The domes without the camera hardware are not created for use with viewing windows. This means that hardware for CCTV or other security camera systems cannot be added to the domes because the color of the dome will inhibit camera usage.
Each smoked drop-in dome comes complete with a dome, mounting panel and backing light shield. The mounting panel is created to replace the current panel in the drop ceiling and can be painted to match the ceiling color.
Other Specialty Safety Mirror Hardware
Extension brackets are also available for the installation of convex or flat mirrors. These extension brackets come in two sizes - 14 inch and 26 inch. The arms are used for installing the security mirrors in hard to reach areas where the included brackets simply will not reach. The extension brackets are manufactured from sturdy stainless steel and weight between two and four pounds. The units should be secured properly to the wall due to the combined weight of the bracket and the mirror.
